First things first, you need to understand that you have to design the website for the users or your prospective customers. For example: If you are promoting Safari in Serengeti or Trekking destinations then you can link to a target audience aged between 25-45 years. The next thing is to look for websites and communities that provide information on trekking destinations, sell trekking equipments like camps, lights etc. These are the websites that you need to link with. Now if you link with a website that is selling a Caribbean Cruise then even though it is travel but it is a totally different area of expertise. Hence, the design, the content and linking of your website should follow a definite path related to the area of expertise as this will help in the long run to enhance top search engine ranking results. 

3.    Code: The website code or programming code also plays an important role. You should ideally use keyword driven titles, meta tags, and alt tags so that it can help in creating higher online visibility for your website.
